10:00 Gather in Front of JR Uchiko Station

From JR Matsuyama Station, take the Limited Express Uwakai No. 25 (bound for Uwajima) for approximately 30 minutes. The scenery outside the window gradually changes as you approach a charming town full of atmosphere. We will meet around the area where you descend the stairs after exiting the ticket gate. Right next to the exit, you’ll find the tourist information center “Tabisatoan,” so feel free to stop by if you arrive early.

10:30 Immerse yourself in the tradition of Iwasaki while experiencing kite making

The “Ikazaki Kite Battle” held every May 5th has a history of about 400 years and is designated as a prefectural intangible folk cultural property. The famous large kites are made with Ozu washi (Japanese paper). Ozu washi is one of the two major industries that prospered in Uchiko during the Edo period. At the Ikazaki Kite Museum, where kites from all over Japan and the world are displayed, you’ll have the opportunity to touch the history.

11:00 Fly your own kite and engage in traditional play

Let’s fly the kites we made! Enjoy various ways of playing, such as observing how your kite looks in the sky, who can fly it the highest, and who can keep it up the longest.

11:20 Instagrammable spot! Utsunomiya Shrine and Ryuo Park

Uchiko Town is surrounded by hills and rivers in the alluvial lowlands of the Uchiyama Basin, a naturally rich area. In 1982, it became the first designated National Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in Shikoku. Ryuo Park, located on a small hill overlooking Uchiko Town, provides a stunning view of the town from the fortress of Ryuo at a height of 18 meters.

12:00 Create a cute octopus-shaped character bento

Using the octopus, a specialty of the Matsuyama offshore area and a tradition in Ikazaki, we will create character bento. Not only will it turn out cute as a character bento, but the other side dishes also use Japanese cooking techniques with natural fermented seasonings, allowing you to enjoy and learn about Japanese cuisine.

13:30 Enjoy a picnic with the bento you made

The experience of sharing the bento you made with friends while feeling the culture of Uchiko Town firsthand is truly special. Filling your body with a bento full of love and satisfying your heart as you spend time with cherished friends while sensing the original scenery of the Edo period creates a unique and fulfilling experience. Please note that in the event of rain, the mealtime will take place in a Japanese-style room. We will make this determination based on the weather forecast one week in advance.

14:30 Time travel to the Edo period at the Important Cultural Property “Wax Museum Kamigayo Residence.”

Transport yourself to the Edo to Meiji era. Uchiko Town, once flourishing in wax production, is home to the Kamigayo Residence, considered the largest in Japan. Preserved in its original state from its heyday, it is designated as an Important Cultural Property. Only at the Kamigayo Residence can you witness the architectural structure of the time, guest rooms, and the production process, including the kiln area.

15:30 Disband

After fully enjoying the “Octopus Experience Tour,” we will disband on the spot. You are free to explore the town on your own or relax at the hotel. Feel free to savor Uchiko Town until your schedule allows. For those who want to further immerse themselves in Uchiko Town, consider joining other tours such as the “Preventive Medicine Experience Tour” or the “Rice and Vinegar-Soaked Egg Experience Tour.”
